SITE N\u00b0 1 L\u2019EGLISE<\/h1>\n

A vos pieds, vous pouvez voir au ras du sol, le seul vestige encore visible de l\u2019ancienne \u00e9glise enti\u00e8rement d\u00e9truite en 14-18. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019une des pierres de\u00a0soubassement de l\u2019entr\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

Avant guerre, l\u2019\u00e9glise de FRELINGHIEN est \u00e0 l\u2019emplacement actuel mais orient\u00e9e Est-ouest et non Nord- sud comme aujourd\u2019hui.<\/p>\n

Dans une zone de front d\u00e9pourvue de fort relief, les clochers constituent autant de postes d\u2019observation du champ de bataille.<\/p>\n

A leur arriv\u00e9e, les troupes allemandes les utilisent comme observatoire. Les Anglais bombardent alors le clocher. Les premiers obus tombent le 23 Octobre 1914 \u00e0 partir de 15h30.<\/p>\n

Un incendie se d\u00e9clenche qui ne s\u2019\u00e9teint que le lendemain dans l\u2019apr\u00e8s-midi.<\/p>\n

Pour pallier la disparition des points d\u2019observation tels que les clochers ou les moulins \u00e0 vent, nombreux encore \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque dans les campagnes, les Allemands construisent des observatoires, en particulier, pour r\u00e9gler les tirs d\u2019artillerie.<\/p>\n

Il s\u2019agit de tours en b\u00e9ton arm\u00e9, souvent camoufl\u00e9es dans des b\u00e2timents civils. Deux de ces observatoires sont encore visibles sur le territoire de FRELINGHIEN (en campagne).<\/p>\n

L\u2019\u00e9glise actuelle est inaugur\u00e9e le 4 octobre 1925. Construite sur les plans de l\u2019architecte Louis SIX, elle est inspir\u00e9e de l\u2019art roman mais interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 de fa\u00e7on rustique.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n
